Dr. Ermshar will be one of the featured presenters at the California Psychological Association 2015 Annual Conference in San Diego, CA along with Dr. Morgan Sammons, PhD, ABPP, Dr. Alan Lincoln, PhD, MCSP, and Dr. Andris Skuja, PhD. Dr. Ermshar is presenting on Ethical, Legal and Practice Implications of Recent Developments in Psychopharmacology for Psychologists.

Presentation Highlights:

Developments in legal, political, and ethical aspects of psychologist prescribing will be discussed in light of enabling legislation in Illinois. Practical and ethical challenges of ACA-driven expansions of psychopharmacological services to children and adolescents will be discussed. Developments in neuroscience mandating changes in psychologists’ training and competence assessment will be covered.

  1. Describe elements of Illinois legislation enabling psychologists to prescribe, and potential ramifications for initiatives in California and other states.
  2. Describe practice patterns regarding use of psychotropics in children and adolescents, including problematic use of antipsychotica and stimulants, and the likely effects the Affordable Care Act will have on such patterns.
  3. Describe recent advances in neurobiological foundations of mental disorders and how ethical and regulatory obligations to keep abreast of such changes will affect practicing psychologists in California.
